Long-distance move from Derbyshire to Derbyshire

We were moved from the property into storage.

The chaps packed our belongings and were very careful. They used several vans so that when one was full it went into storage whilst another was being filled at the property. An extremely efficient and smooth move. The quote included the return of our belongings to our new home in the not too distant future.

Overall it was a superb, efficient and friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble. I'm extremely happy so far. Thanks guys.

Long-distance move from Derby, Derbyshire to Derby, Derbyshire

Don't use - critical lesson learnt.

I booked D Bass and paid in full as their standard and have a planned date as contracts were not signed. As the date had to change I was informed that I had to pay 50% fee to change the date which was the same fee to cancel. I was furious and decided to cancel so it cost me £475 and then they had the cheek to charge me £30 for the boxes they sent. The most expensive removal boxes in the work! The lesson is NEVER pay a removal company anything until your contract is signed. Then look very carefully at who you hire as BAR registered company would charge you a max of 30% to cancel and advise you clearly about only having a planned date. Some only ask for a 10% deposit to fix a date and this is what you lose to cancel. So please seriously look elsewhere for a removal company.

Service cost: £1140

Official company response

Well Kevin!

Lets get one thing straight. Our company comes out to your home and conducts a pre move survey. We then email you the quotation along with our terms and conditions and an acceptance form. You accept the quotation and return all the forms signed agreeing to the terms of the contract.
You then give us date one. Which we book into our diary. We hold this date for you as a confirmed booking and you change the date. We then get another date. We then book this in as a confirmed booking and as a result, turn work away to hold your date. You then ring us and want to move your date again. So because you cancelled your move again so close to your move date, we have 4 men and two vehicles spare with no chance of filling the slot even though we have turned work away. SO YES WE CHARGED YOU as per the terms you signed and agreed to.
Now the boxes. These were charged at £1.80 per box and £25 delivery as they now become not free! Sorry to disappoint you.
Time of a business is not free and nor are materials.
The BAR! The British associaiton of removals is one of perhaps 4 reputable organisations for removal companies in the UK. It is the oldest association of them all. But it doesn't mean if you are not a member your services are substandard. Some BAR members are appauling let me tell you. We have actually also been approached by the BAR to become a member. We are currently a member of the Uk moving group U-Move which is a group quailty removal companies within the UK. We are inspected and assessed for our professionalism and we also pride oursleves on our excellence. Being as we never actually carried out your removal, you are not in a position to comment on our services. We carry out hundreds of moves every year above and beyond the standard of many movers in the Derby area. We operate a fleet of vehicles second to nobody in the area also.
So the fact here is that you have suddenly become an expert that is everything BAR and removal related because you have been charged for costing us work by cancelling your move date more than once.
I think the facts here speak for them selves. Removal companies in general do not require customers like yourselve. It is all to easy to become a keyboard warrior with no actual backbone and people like you are a prime example.

Long-distance move from Derby, Derbyshire to Derby, Derbyshire

Shambles.

All I need to say is we had flat pack wardrobes, and David Bass advised can be difficult to rebuild but didn't realise he meant that we would have mirrored sliding door wardrobes with no doors on just a carcass he sent the removal men to rebuild who apparantly have 30 years experience. One of the doors are now broken and he is prepared to do nothing, all terms and conditions so he charged an extra 85.00 for the pleasure of us having no wardrobes and we where out of any claim date after 7 days he said we should have checked everything on the same day.Due to the fact that my mother is on end of life going around checking for damage was not on our list of prioritiesReally wouldnot advise after our experience.just not interested.

Service cost: £597

Official company response

Well Caroline.

Your removal was completed and no damage at all incurred over your move day.
The problem here is that the team of men who moved you could not refit your wardrobe sliding doors as the wardrobe carcasses were not level. This was do to them being in poor state before we dismantled them (as pointed out by the team before hand to you) and because at your new home the floors were not level. They need to be totally level to get the doors on and to make them slide correctly. We have photos to prove this.
In our terms and conditions it clearly states that flat packed furniture of any kind isn't insured by our company. This is also made perfectly clear on the acceptance form that you have very clearly signed and dated. Although we may charge to take items to pieces and reassemble them, it is at your own risk. This is because the chipboard and make up of this type of furniture just isn't up to being moved around. It is not designed for this.
On this occasion we did send back some of our guys who still could not get the doors back on because your husband had fixed the wardrobes to the wall and they were our of square.
Everything was ok upon the team leaving your home as your husband watched the guys constantly. If you have damaged anything after we had left the property, that's your problem.
Regardless of the men having been removal men for over 30 years they are not miracle workers. Your entire attitude to our staff upon returning to your home and me over the phone was disgraceful and to be quite honest we have done as much for you as we are prepared to.

We as a company complete hundreds of moves every year to the very highest of standards and have very little problems at all. This particular forum seems to be where most clients seem to post if they do not get everything done as they demand. Even some people on here that are allowed to leave feedback that we haven't even moved! You will never please every client although we do try very hard to do so.
It doesn't though take away that we have hundreds of very lovely clients who come back to us time and time again recommending our company to others who need to move.
It does seem that people today are very quick to jump on the keyboard warrior bandwagon to slate a company or persons. The fact though of the matter is that the reality is often very different to what actually happened!
Our offices are always open from 0730 to 1630 for any client who needs to speak with us.

Terrible service

After they hadn’t completed the job that I paid over £700 pounds for, I received several phone calls and a text message demanding an additional payment of £360 the next day, or they would call the collection team. I felt that the removal team were slow, rude, unprofessional and unhelpful from start to finish and that David Bass tried (unsuccessfully) to intimidate because I am a single mother.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: £700

Official company response

So again we are responding to Clare Storer of Duffield. On the day our team loaded her home by 10.30. So not slow. They then sat for over 6 hours before getting keys. After 1600 Jane contacted Claire to advise that if we didn’t have access in the next 30 mins or so a decision would need to be made about bringing her items into storage as our teams cannot work until
Late pm. It’s not safe and we have a duty of care to our staff. She then proceeded to cry down the phone as if the situation was of our making. Jane then spoke to the site manager who got the keys for her and we got access. To help speed things up, we sent 3 more men to assist getting her in quickly. Claire paid £595 plus vat. £714 in total. Upon unloading she was abusive and was rude to all the staff members unloading. Which is not on. We dismantled and rebuild beds free of charge but normally given such late access we wouldn’t have time to do. But as we send extra guys we did this for her. She do though expect the team to dismantle wardrobes and rebuild at the new home even though she had not paid for this and the time was not on our side. So this couldn’t be done. The problem then comes with Claire paying the waiting time. She is a driving instructor and I don’t think she would work for free and our services certainly are not either. We issue terms and conditions complete with acceptance of quote forms highlighting all charges. This was signed and returned by Claire. So she was well aware of this. Jane even spoke to her and she was in agreement.
When our team returned back to our depot late that evening I rang her because as I wanted to speak to her about the conduct to our staff members. No answer after three times so I left a message asking her to call us regarding this and the bill which is now outstanding.
The constant use of single mother moved to a £400k home doesn’t wash and is just an excuse and there is clearly mental issues affront. We don’t harass or intimidate anyone and all clients get the same good service. That’s why we are in business 30 years down the line. These review sites do seem to attract keyboard warriors that really have nothing better to do. I bet Claire doesn’t leave a bad review regarding her solicitor as this is where the problem lies. They should pick up the cost of any extra moving fees due to delays if they cannot transfer funds in 8 hours

Long-distance move from Derby, Derbyshire to Derby, Derbyshire

Excellent.

Simply the best removal company I have ever seen and experienced.

David Bass and his staff were very polite, careful and trustworthy and went way past our expectations.

We simply left them to it and they did everything from ensuring items that were not packed got packed, removing tv’s from walls, bagging beds and ensuring they protected delicate items such as marble table, mirrors, boxing TV’s etc.. and that's with a standard service.

The professionalism and speed was second to none and I would not recommend an alternative company.

Using David Bass and his team again in 1 months time.

Thanks David and the team.

Long-distance move from Derby, Derbyshire to Carlisle, Cumbria

Removal and storage.

A very good experience. The review will show Carlisle as the destination but actually it was further south in Cumbria, much more rural and up a steep hill! Our move was on and off due to circumstances beyond our control. When the date changed close to the removal date David arranged to store our contents for a week in Derby then deliver them up the M6. In the interest of fair comparison the figure quoted here was for the move north. There was a separate charge for what was effectively a second local move as the vans had to be loaded and unloaded twice. We thought the main removal price was reasonable (much lower than a competing quote) as was the additional charge for transfer to storage. In the days leading up to removal we had a problem in moving a very heavy sofa bed downstairs for disposal. David asked two of the lads to visit and they moved it down and outside, without any damage to the house. This was done free of charge. From start to finish David was friendly and helpful and his team clearly adopt the same approach. The move was completed in November but as we've recently finished emptying the boxes this reminded us to write the review.

Move of parents.

Dave and his team were helpful and flexible, while the date was set for the move. They packed and moved my 85 year old parents. This was the first time my parents had a packing service. The team gave attention to my dad throughout the two days, which was something he needed. They unpacked the van at my parents new home in a very organised way, keeping disruptions to a minimum. We are all very pleased to recommend the Bass team, as they were very professional , helpful, and courteous and wouldn’t hesitate to employ them again.

Great Service!

A fantastic service from start to finish, 4 thoughtful and professional gents arrived punctually and within a few hours and emptied a 4 bed detached home and garage including dismantling of beds.
Great attitude and personalities, we had a laugh along the way which made it a less stressful and actually quite enjoyable day! I couldn’t rate the team led by John any higher.

Hopefully we won’t be moving again soon (!) but would recommend you all in a heart beat.
Thanks for all your help (especially Stu for putting the beds up again!).
